Few people get to pursue their passion in their vocation. I am passionate about words, and I get to craft and edit words to develop messages that are clear, consistent, and cohesive. I am always interested in new client work. Please contact me in the comments below or by e-mail (erin/AT/fillingmypatchofsky/DOT/com) if you have a project to discuss.

[1] Communications for As Our Own
Communications Development, Web Site Content, Facebook Content, Identity Launch Materials
This client contacted me for communications help to unveil their name and manage their identity change from Charasia to As Our Own. The project scope began with smoothing out the organization’s mission statement, which served as the foundation for announcing the new name and logo. That led to content for a new Web site as well as other written communications (including Facebook profile information, campaign creation and execution, partner updates, grant proposals and reports, and newsletters).
This is more than a project—the ministry of As Our Own has captured my heart and soul. I count it an honor to work with them.

[2] Training Guide for Spread Truth
Manual Content Development and Editing
This project is everything a freelancer dreams of: great people, inspiring project, creative freedom. The challenge was to take the director’s 40-plus pages of training notes and expand them into a full training manual. I had the opportunity to edit the original content, create new sections, add transition paragraphs and sentences, and offer suggestions for training tools.
Working with Spread Truth is not only a professional highlight—it is a personal one too, as I got to lend a hand to a work that helps people know Jesus.

[3] Campaign for Zdi
Zdi was heading to an important conference and needed a bold look to set its booth apart from the others. The Artezen design team delivered with a campaign theme that was playful and purposeful. Have We Met? was inviting to the passers-by and also addressed Zdi’s concern that previous and current clients were not fully aware of its offering.
Artezen developed booth signage, a company information packet, informational tear-sheets for each Zdi product line, animated digital signage, and t-shirts. I wrote the content for each element and will use the theme to update the Zdi Web site in 2011.

[4] Web Site for Zdi
Web Site Content and Development
All writers need to be stretched, and this is the client that does it for me. Zdi is a technology-based company in the structured cabling field. The challenge is to communicate Zdi’s high-tech offering in a way that is understandable to the general public without degrading Zdi’s expertise.
This updated Zdi site was launched in 2011 to incorporate its new campaign—Have We Met? (unveiled at a conference late in 2010)—developed by the design team at Artezen.

[5] Social Event for Zdi
Event Theme Development and Event Management
Zdi needed an upscale social event to mark the launch of their status as an exclusive McIntosh dealer. Zdi partnered with Isringhausen Motors in Champaign to host a listening event to feature each of their luxury products at this invitation-only event.
My charge was to create the social event name, develop the theme, and write all content, as well as arrange for custom invitations, event signage, and event photography (Britten Traughber).

[6] Brochure for My Favorite Things
Brochure Content
The eclectic textile designs of Melissa Danner required a snazzy identity piece. With direction from designer Mark Huffman, I provided quippy content for this six-panel piece. Each panel featured an MFT product line and showcased pieces with Melissa’s signature combination of patterns and textures.

[7] Program for SDA
Content Editing and Writing
Stewardship Development Association develops programs for churches that would like to hold a stewardship emphasis series. Its newest offering, the Transitions package, includes sermon outlines, drama sketches, music, Sunday school lessons, bulletin inserts, mailers, and posters.
I was asked to provide content editing, write a few content elements, and review the art before the package went to print.

[8] Web Site for My Favorite Things
Web Site Content and Art Direction
My Favorite Things features the textile creations of Melissa Danner. She needed a site that was whimsical and artistic, exuding a bit of her eclectic styling. I worked with designer Pam Germer of Quade Graphiqs, acting as content writer and art director to get this site to shout Melissa’s style.
Although the site is no longer live, it’s still a project I’m very fond of! Check out My Favorite Things via blog or Etsy.

[9] Donor Communications for KMA
Copyediting and Proofreading
For five years I enjoyed working for KMA editing communications materials for Christian organizations and ministries. As my writing projects grew, I had to make room, and sadly, I needed to step away from my KMA work. This is a top-notch agency with wonderful people! I got to work on the following accounts while under contract: Moody Bible Institute | Wycliffe Bible Translators | SIM
Messianic Jewish Alliance of America | ChristianWorks for Children

Erin,
I am a financial consultant.
I have a client who does media placement and is looking to redo their web site- they like the look and feel of the KMA web site. Did KMA do that in house or use an outside person/agency?
Are you available for copy writing on a web site? The owner doesnt want to use internal respources for that?
What do you charge?
can get to my email at tnoon@yahoo.com

Hi Erin–
Janet McCarty gave me your website info a while ago and suggested I contact you. I recently stepped into the freelance writing/editing field (finally decided to do what I love!) and wondered if you could give me any tips/info about being successful at it. I’ve had some consistent assignments, but am looking to expand a little more. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Hello, Becky! I’d love to chat about writing and editing work—we are a rare breed, so we must stick together! I’ll e-mail soon so we can get acquainted. So glad you stopped by! —es
